UTPB Engineering
Built: 2018 - 2019
Budget: Undisclosed
Location: University of Texas Permian Basin
KDC Associates teamed with Stantec Architects to develop the new $50 million engineering building for the University of Texas Permian Basin campus. KDC assited the team by designing exterior entrances, parking, patios, site lighting, amenities, planting, irrigation, and other spaces to serve a quickly growing student population. The site utilizes xeric design standards with underground drip irrigation and includes heavy use of Texas natives and other hardy plant materials. Unique lighted bollards define drop off zones as well as primary building access areas. A large fire lane was required for this site, and the design utilizes a stabilized and compacted decomposed granite over a reinforced concrete slab in order to provide greater aesthetics vs. exposed concrete.
