Progressive Societies

"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in". Ancient Greek Proverb

Whoever thought up this quote several thousand years ago shouold be teaching urban planning in today's modern universities. All too often our planning attempts...whether for a business, a university, a city, or even a nation, are short-sided and do not look at the big picture. Rather, human nature compells us to see the small picture, those events that will only affect us in the immediate or short term time frame. As a society, we are constantly surrounded by the immediacy of life. Sometimes, as this Greek proverb suggest, we need to step back and do what is right...not what is easy and quick. Be a part of the solutions, not part of the problems in the world around us.
